TRUE LABOUR PAIN

  • Uterine contractions comes at regular intervals.
  • Contractions increase gradually.
  • Increase interval and power of labour.
  • “Show” present in labour.(“show” means profuse cervical secretion in labour.
  • Duration between pains gradually becomes short.
  • Presence of bulging fore water.
  • The pain felt by the mother in true labour in abdomen, back, and groin.
  • Cervical dilation and effacement present.
  • In true labour pain is not relieved by sedation or enema.

FALSE LABOUR PAIN

  • Pain comes at irregular interval.
  • Power of pain does not progress in false labour.
  • Interval between pain remain the same in false labour.
  • Bulging of forewaters absent in false labour.
  • In false labour, pain felt in the lower abdomen.
  • Cervical dilation and effacement absent in false labour.
  • In false labour mother feel painful uterine contraction but without having cervical dilation.
  • Pain is relieved by sedation and enema.
